The Federation is made up of several Geographical Extensions of Operations, Geos for short, that cover a large area in which ships are stationed. These are bases of operations for fleets of ships (chapters) within their confines, and are direct extensions of the IFT Command Headquarters Operations office. Each Geo Fleet Base has its own staff, usually from members within that GEO, to help to maintain the operations of the starships in their region of Federation space. This is usually done by means of constant communication, resource exchange, and mandatory monthly reporting. Here is a concise listing of the Geo Base Offices and their coordinates of operation:

History: When GEO 2 was activated, in its current state, there were only two chapters.  The USS Onyx in Nashville and the relatively new FSS R. Lee Ermey in Radcliff/Ft. Knox.  In the last couple of years since the GEO was relaunched, it has doubled in size with the addition of fout other chapters, the USS Victory in Norfolk, VA, the USS Atlantis in Florida, the USS North Carolina in North Carolina, and the USS Warren in Myrtle Beach, SC.  Currently, this GEO is working on two projects, the appearance of Star Trek the Exhibition in Louisville, KY and the Southern Fried Sci-Fi Festival in Elizabethtown, KY. Today, GEO 2 and its leadership works on continued growth and fulfilling the mission of its chapters and of The Federation.

History: Federation space was vast, most star systems home to many species all under the protection of the Federation charter, over one hundred and fifty of them. Set apart from the more populated star systems was Sector 4, a system that had yet to be claimed by any of the known races, With Starfleet's resources diverted else where, the council assigned five ships to stand watch and help maintain peace across the four only inhabited planets out of the fourteen solar systems that made up Sector 4 as a whole. The region was nick named the desert for the reason that very few called this patch of space home and with colonization slow, Starfleet didn't see the need to increase security as the five ships stood guard and the chance that an emergency might come up seemed remote.

Then when tensions began to rise between the Federation and the Romulan Star Empire, the small fleet was broken up as the four other ships were reassigned to deal with this potentially dangerous situation that was developing near the neutral zone. This left three ships remaining behind to handle the guardianship of Sector 4 and with few colonies this seemed of little consequence.
